Calamine Powder, USP/NF Grade
Calamine is a fine, pale-pink mineral powder composed primarily of zinc oxide (ZnO) combined with a small proportion of ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃), typically around 0.5%. The ferric oxide content gives the material its characteristic soft pink coloration, distinguishing it from pure white zinc oxide. The powder is dry, smooth, odorless, and features a uniform particle size suitable for blending and dispersion in manufacturing processes.
This grade meets USP/NF specifications and contains not less than 98% zinc oxide after ignition (CAS 8011-96-9; formula ZnO Fe₂O₃). It is insoluble in water and soluble in acids, remaining chemically stable under normal storage conditions. The material is non-flammable, non-reactive, stable even under fire conditions, synthetic in origin, and supplied as a free-flowing solid.
For optimal storage, keep in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry location between 15–25 °C (59–77 °F), protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat or humidity. Standard personal protective equipment including safety glasses, gloves, and a dust respirator is recommended during handling. The product is non-regulated for ground transport (D.O.T.).
