Calamine Powder, USP/NF Grade

Calamine is a fine, pale-pink mineral powder composed primarily of zinc oxide (ZnO) combined with a small proportion of ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃), typically around 0.5%. The ferric oxide content gives the material its characteristic soft pink coloration, distinguishing it from pure white zinc oxide. The powder is dry, smooth, odorless, and features a uniform particle size suitable for blending and dispersion in manufacturing processes.

This grade meets USP/NF specifications and contains not less than 98% zinc oxide after ignition (CAS 8011-96-9; formula ZnO Fe₂O₃). It is insoluble in water and soluble in acids, remaining chemically stable under normal storage conditions. The material is non-flammable, non-reactive, stable even under fire conditions, synthetic in origin, and supplied as a free-flowing solid.

For optimal storage, keep in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry location between 15–25 °C (59–77 °F), protected from direct sunlight and excessive heat or humidity. Standard personal protective equipment including safety glasses, gloves, and a dust respirator is recommended during handling. The product is non-regulated for ground transport (D.O.T.).

Caution:

Use in accordance with good industrial safety practices, industrial hygiene standards, and all applicable local, state, federal, and international regulations. Avoid creating airborne dust and avoid breathing dust. Ensure adequate exhaust ventilation. Workers handling the material should wear gloves and wash hands and forearms after exposure. If exposure levels exceed limits, approved respiratory protection must be worn. Wear normal chemical work clothing and approved protective eyewear when dust may be created. Keep only in the original container or a similar tightly sealed container. Store under ambient conditions in a well-ventilated area, away from high moisture areas, with packaging tightly sealed. Once original containers are opened, use all product or place remaining product in tightly sealed containers. Prevent contamination of soil, drains, and surface water. Avoid release to the environment. Collect spillage. Avoid dry sweeping or other methods that raise dust; vacuum or wet-sweep and place material into a suitable closable, labeled container for disposal. Dispose of contents, containers, surplus product, and non-recyclable material through a licensed waste disposal contractor and in accordance with applicable local, state, federal, and international regulations. Warning: very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects outside the USA unless transported by air or sea. Water contaminated with this material must be contained and prevented from discharge to the environment. First aid: wash skin with soap and water; flush eyes with plenty of water; drink plenty of water if ingested and do not induce vomiting; move affected person to fresh air if inhaled. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs, if feeling unwell, if respiratory distress occurs, or contact Poison Control after ingestion. The buyer may not repackage or re-label this material; repackaged or relabeled material is not eligible for cancellation or return.
